FINAL FANTASY XII Revised Version --------------- All tracks should now have titles and proper ID3 entries, with the exception of the Unknowns. For untimed tracks, track times were adjusted according to the running times given in the original soundtrack, and given a fadeout where missing and needed ('The Tomb of Raithwall'). Composer credits should all be correct, acknowledging the contributions of Nobuo Uematsu, Masaharu Iwata, and Hayato Matsuo to the OST. File names were adjusted so the entire thing can be sorted by file name and play in the same order it would be in the OST. Missing Tracks -------------- Compared to the original soundtrack release, the PSF rips come up 11 tracks short. Most of the missing pieces are streamed off the PS2 DVD. According to the OST notes, 114, 118, 120, 212, and 421 did not make it into the game. The missing tracks are: 101 - Loop Demo 103 - Opening Movie (Theme of Final Fantasy XII) 114 - Level Up! 118 - Mission Start 120 - Mission Failure 204 - Abyss 212 - Chocobo Arrange FFXII Ver. I 418 - Ending Movie 419 - Kiss Me Good-Bye (Featured in Final Fantasy XII) 420 - Symphonic Poem "Hope" ~ Final Fantasy XII PV Ver. ~ 421 - Theme of Final Fantasy XII (Presentation Version) Translation Notes ----------------- Translations are based on the tracklistings posted at gmronline.com. Alternate translations have appeared elsewhere, most notably ncsx.com, but GMR's versions seem to be the most accurate. For comparison purposes: NCSX GMR -------------------------------------------- Little Villain Little Rascal Neighborhood of Water Near the Water Sign An Omen Riot Rebellion Symptoms of Change Signs of Change Peaceful Determination Quiet Determination A Threat Draws Near An Imminent Threat Ground of Recollection A Land of Memories Fight to the Death Desperate Fight The only NCSX translation favored was for 115 -- GMR has this listed as 'Naivety'. Some track titles appear to be based on fan translation. 'Esper' and 'Esper Battle' are particularly problematic, as this is a fan take on a word -- 'genjuu' (phantom beast) -- that doesn't have a official and reliable translation yet. Similarly, some of the place names may also be changing -- 'Ozmone Plains' were translated as 'Ozmonfeld' in Tactics Advance, which leaves the possibility open that the US version of XII may be following suit. Extra Tracks ------------ A number of the tracks ripped from the game DVD are duplicated, thought some are fragments of longer tracks. Anything that isn't a straight-up dupe has appropriate parenthetical signifiers; the others are labelled as 'Extra.' No time adjustments were made here. The most notable of these 'Extra' tracks is the partial loop of 'Theme of the Empire', which was heavily used in promoting FFXII, ending up as background music on the official website as well as one of the promo trailers. Unknown Tracks -------------- Two tracks didn't correspond to any of the OST material even after repeated listens; these have been relabelled Unknown 1 and 2. It may be that these are fragments of existing tracks, but it wasn't possible to verify this. Unknown 1 seems to be self-contained; Unknown 2 is a variation of 'Theme of the Empire'. It's more likely that these two are music composed for the game that didn't make the final cut. Problematic Tracks ------------------ For some reason, the rip for 403 ('The Port of Balfonheim') actually mixes the OST track with the flute parts from 'Secret Training'. The 'true' track does not contain the first 29 seconds, and just repeats the string sections and harp arpeggios heard afterwards. 'You Really are a Child...' seems slightly shorter than the OST version. Original Credits ---------------- Thanks to tz for ripping the chunk of data I needed to put together this set. Thanks to Neill for his work on the FFX driver that once again makes an appearance. :) Thanks to "that VGMTrans guy" for his wonderful time-saving program. Thanks to davironica for being a great friend, and for all of her wonderful contributions to the world of PSF. ~oddigy http://oddigy.com [Revised notes by M R Sachs]
